The proposed Targeted MSP Alliance for Improvement of Mathematics Skills PreK-16(AIMS PK-16) is a regional partnership of Del Mar (Community) College, Texas A&M University Kingsville (TAMUK), and nine independent school districts1 enrolling about 30,000 students, 61% either Hispanic or African American and 50% economically disadvantaged. These schools are in a rapidly growing region and student enrollment is projected to exceed 30,000 by 2002-2003. AIMS PK-16 will target closing the gaps in math achievement that prepares PreK-12 students for college level math courses.

Del Mar and TAMUK have a long history of collaboration between institutions and with local school districts, especially the nine partnering districts. The higher education partners bring capacity, expertise, and experience in mathematics content and pedagogy. Del Mar College is a Hispanic Serving two-year comprehensive community college with two campuses located in Corpus Christi, Texas, the eighth largest city in Texas and will take the lead role in AIMS PK-16. TAMUK is also a Hispanic Serving institution, operating as a regional university with an "open door admissions philosophy" and is located 45 miles south in Kingsville, Texas.

The overarching goal of AIMS PK-16 is to prepare all students for success in college level math courses by the time they graduate from high school through vertical alignment, professional development, challenging curriculum, use of information technology, and research on strategies and interventions.
